It is a beautiful first day of December! I trust you all are doing well in your own corner of this beautiful planet. :) November was a busy month for us. I made two trips over to Bogotá and Villavicencio for special leadership meetings. These were both on short notice and put a dent in our usual work schedule of calling and teaching here in Pereira. We thank God for His mercy and grace and that I had safe journeys over the mountains and back. The little motorcycle is a bit underpowered but got me there and back and that's what counts. Jorge and Mariluz started coming to our couples' meetings at the first of the year. They were having serious relationship problems and were invited by mutual friends to attend. It was a real pleasure to participate in their marriage recently. It has also been great to see them growing in the Lord together as they learn to walk in God's paths. We were invited to a fifteenth birthday party for the daughter of a couple we've been working with for a while. The fifteenth birthday is a big thing for girls down here and is often accompanied by elaborate parties to celebrate this milestone in the young woman's life. The catch was - we were tired. It had been a long day, hard on the heels of a long week. But this couple has come to many activities and are open to us sharing the Gospel message with them. So we showered and got ready and arrived a bit later than we'd hoped, but just in time for the song "Quince Velas" (fifteen candles) that is traditional for such celebrations. And then the young lady started handing out the 15 candles that had been part of her bouquet. She started with her father, then her mother and for each one she read a dedicatory paragraph. This progressed through brother and sister, grandma, other family members and then we heard our names as well. This was quite a surprise and very touching for us as she mentioned how we have helped them to become a more united family. We pray that the gospel seeds that have been sown in the life of this family will continue to germinate and produce a harvest for our Lord's glory. December and January are very stressful times for Colombian families. End of year vacation combined with the holiday season and followed by the beginning of the school year brings about a lot of stress and strain in many areas of life. This is a time in which we are called on to minister to peoples' needs and to help them not only survive but draw closer to their Savior as well. Your prayers for our flock and ourselves over the next couple of months are especially important. From January 11 to 15 we will be hosting church leaders from all over Colombia for our annual meeting. We are looking forward to seeing everyone. This year we are hosting the meeting here in Pereira which means much more responsibility on our shoulders. The meeting place is reserved and invitations sent. Now to organize things so that everything will go smoothly. Thank you for making it possible for us to live and work here in Pereira. We are truly thankful for your faithful support and for the prayers you offer up on behalf of the work that the Lord is doing here. You are indeed a vital link in the ministry here.
